Conclusion of the Cycle of Empowerments and Dharma Teachings by Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang
000017282464

Segyu Gaden Phodrang Monastery wishes to express our immense gratitude to Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang for blessing our monastery, and the Nepal Sangha, with many Dharma activities over this past month.

Kyabje Rinpoche began by granting Gesgtul ( novice ) vows to a group of young monks who had joined the monastery over this past year. This was followed a few days later by the granting of Gelong ( full ordination ) vows to a small group of monks from India.

On March 15th, Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang began a cycle of empowerments that included the Empowerment of Akshobya Guhyasamaja, 13-Deity Yamantaka, 62-Deity Heruka Chakrasamvara from the Luipa tradition, 5-Deity Heruka Chakrasamvara from the Ghantapa tradition, and the Heruka Chakrasamvara Body-Mandala Empowerment, also from the Ghantapa tradition.

Following these important empowerments, Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang gave extensive teachings on the very profound ‘Four Interwoven Commentaries of Guhyasamaja’.

After the completion of Guhyasamaja teachings, Rinpoche granted the Blessing Empowerment ( jenang ) of White Tara Wish-Fulfilling Wheel, followed by the Long Life Empowerment.

Next, at the request of several devoted students, Kyabje Rinpoche bestowed the oral transmission for the following prayers and practices: Sadhana of Heruka Chakrasamvara entitled Illumination of Bliss, written by Je Tsongkhapa; sadhana of Guhyasamaja, written by Je Tsongkhapa; Dorje Shugden Kangso, written by the 10th Panchen Lama; Praise to Manjushri ( Gangloma ); the Offering of Scents to the Bardo Beings Ritual ( Tsa Sur ), written by the 1st Panchen Lama; and finally the blessed Migtsema prayer of Je Tsongkhapa.

In conclusion, the entire assembly of disciples, both ordained and lay, offered a Long-Life Puja to Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang, in gratitude for his tireless and compassionate Dharma activities. We pray that Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang live a very long time and continue to lead us all to the gates of Enlightenment.

Holy Dharma Teachings by Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang17022056_1341018062603694_3584711196818820180_n

Due to the request of faithful disciples, both ordained and lay, who strive for liberation, as well as many prayers and wishes over the past years from the Sangha of Segyu Monastery, Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang has agreed to bestow the precious treasure of Dharma Teachings and Empowerments to his faithful disciples in Nepal.
He has kindly offered to begin by bestowing Gestul Vows (Novice Vows, which are the second set of vows and monk will take) to those wishing to receive them.
On March 15th, in this special month of miracles, Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang will grant the Empowerment of Akshobya Guhyasamaja, proceeded by the Empowerment of 13-Deity Yamantaka. Rinpoche will then bestow the Empowerment of 62-Deity Heruka Chakrasamvara from the Luipa tradition.
Continuing, at the zealous requests of Gelong Thardo and companions, Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang will grant the Empowerment of 5-Deity Heruka Chakrasamvara from the Ghantapa tradition. This will be followed by the Empowerment of Heruka Chakrasamvara Body-Mandala, also from the Ghantapa tradition.
Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang has advised that there will be practice commitments for these Empowerments. For the practices of Guhyasamaja, Yamantaka, and Chakrasamvara of the Luipa tradition, the commitment is to perform the sadhana of each deity separately, either the long, middling or short sadhana, whichever time and circumstances permit. For the practice of 5-deity Chakrasamvara and Chakrasamvara Body-Mandala, the commitment is to do the practice known as the “Three Purifications” (Dakpa Sum) as a minimum; although Rinpoche also encourages the practice of the longer sadhanas of these practices as well. As with all Highest-Yoga-Tantra empowerments, there is also the commitment to perform the Six-Session Guru Yoga.
At the conclusion of these Empowerments, Rinpoche will give teachings on the profound “Four Interwoven Commentaries of Guhyasamaja.”
All of the Empowerments and Teachings will begin at 1:00 pm in the main prayer hall of Segyu Gaden Phodrang Monastery. Thus, we welcome all faithful disciples who are striving for liberation to attend these precious teachings.

The Rainy Season Retreat (Skt. vassa; Tib. yarney) is now underway here at our monastery.
This will be the first Rainy Season Retreat performed in the new prayer hall.

Historically this is a time when monks would take shelter from the heavy rains. Because this is the season when so many tiny creatures come to life, travel would cease so that these tiny animals wouldn’t be harmed needlessly.

January 2, 2015

Happy New Year dear friends!

We are starting the new year with a very definitive goal that will take us to the completion of the foundation and start of creating the literal prayer hall itself. The total cost of completion of foundation is 3,571,000 Nepali Rupees, which converts to $35,000 USD.

Please take a few minutes to read this meaningful information and see in the photos just how far we have come together. The historical significance of this project, both past and present, is simple. Since it’s inception this small jewel has held and preserved all of Je Tsongkahpa’s tantric teachings and transmissions. The prayer hall project will enable them to perform a vital function for our tradition, without which it could just disappear. The prayer hall and additional resident rooms will allow monks from our other great monasteries, such as Shar Gaden, Serpom, and Phegyle Ling, to continue their training in the tantric teachings of this precious lineage. The monastery is a like store house, a treasury. By preserving and protecting the complete teachings of Je Tsongkhapa, they remain accessible to all people on what ever level or interest they have. Had they not remained pure and intact we could not be receiving the teachings that we do from our own teachers, and can continue for future generations.

In addition, as you may know, many families in Nepal try to send their children to monasteries simply because they can no longer financially support them. We try to take in as many as we can, and also try to intervene when we hear of a family that plans on taking a child to a factory to live and work, which is another option for families, and offer to take them to the monastery instead. Many will develop a wish to become a good monk and stay, and continue to become great Geshes, we also know some will eventually leave, but they will now be leaving with an education, and a good foundation of dharma, and will be able to help their families and be good people in this world. Even though Segyu is comparatively a small monastery, when they can do this, the family does not have to send their child so far away, to another country. This is also why we allow, and encourage any local children to come to classes at the monastery to learn English and other conventional subjects, and also act as a charity when we are able for food and medical. Through the consistency of the sponsorship program this past year, we have been able to take in 18 more mini monks, which is why this is another one of the great benefits of the Prayer Hall Project. Not only will the new resident rooms allow us to house monks coming to continue their studies at this important tantric university, it will also include adding more rooms for the purpose of taking in more mini monks.

We would be very grateful for your consideration of donating to this project. We can never really know just how great the future benefit of that kindness may be. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please visit our fundraiser page, we are offering many beautiful, blessed gifts for you kindness.

Segyu Monastery Textbook Distribution and Teacher Appreciation Banquet

The Segyu Monastery Textbook Distribution and Teacher Appreciation Banquet organized by Segyu Monastery has been concluded at the Segyu premises. The program was chaired by Venerable Abbot Jampa Chundu La.

The program was started with a short Guru Yoga prayer. During the program, the English language teacher Ms. Smritee Lama highlighted the purpose of the English class in the Monastery. Ms. Smritee stressed how English language can be a bridge to spread Buddhism all over the world. She added that as we all are followers of the Buddha, each of us has a responsibility to spread the Buddha Dharma. English Language is an International language, and by the assistence of language we can together make a difference. She also gave thanks to Tenpa La and Kelsang La, as well as the Dharma Bridge Foundation for their important support for classes at our monastery.

Venerable abbot Jampa Chundu la then gave some special advice as a blessing and he thanked the Dharma bridge for their great cooperation. He also gave many thanks to the teachers and monastery secretary for their contribution.
During his speech, Abbot Jampa La added, “I know my pupils are doing well now and I hope they will continue to be do good students in the future. In this generation we should learn English in the spirit of our Dharma. In another way, without knowing much, it is not possible to reach Buddhahood”(without learning the five sciences, even the most holy also couldn’t reach nirvana. These words were quoted from Sakya Pandita). “In this way, we should learn all that we can and use this knowledge in a positive way. Young monks are basis, or seed, of our monastery so it is my wish they should acquire a good education . I want to request you all that if there is any further advice on providing an in-depth education, please consult us and we will be very grateful for your input. Thank you.”

During the program our venerable abbot Jampa Chundula distributed the new textbooks to our young monks, which were sponsored by theDharma Bridge Foundation. Then our venerable abbot offered tokens of Love and appreciation to both teachers.

Today’s program ended with dedication prayer led by our Chant-Master (UmZela) and then was concluded with a thank you speech by Palden La.

Segyu Monastery Textbook Distribution and Teacher Appreciation Banquet

May 6, 2012 – Update:
Saka Dawa

is one of the most important Buddhist holy days. Saka Dawa is celebrated for the entire fourth month of the Tibetan calendar. On the first full moon day of this month, we commemorate the three most important deeds of Shakyamuni; he was born, he attained Enlightenment, and passed into the clear light of death (parinirvana). It is said in the scriptures that all the merits from our Dharma practice during Saka Dawa will be multiplied 100,000 times.
The monks of Segyu Gaden Phodrang Monastery will be engaging in the practice of Nyung Nay (Fasting Retreat) starting on the first full moon day of Saka Dawa. This is a powerful, quick and effective method to purify a lot of negativities and at the same time collect a vast amount of merit.

The practice of Nyung Nay entails 3 practice days. Each Nyung Nay retreat consists of 7 practice sessions spread over this time, the first starting at 4:00am and ending after breakfast on the 4th day. In each session the monks practice the special meditation of Chenrezig, the Buddha of compassion. The practice involves meditating on compassion, visualizing Chenrezig, reciting prayers and mantras, and performing prostrations. Each session lasts approximately 3 hours.

In early April of 2012, Segyu Gaden Phodrang Monastery had the honor of hosting the illustrious Master Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang for a series of teachings and pujas.

While at the monastery, Kyabje Daknak Rinpoche bestowed a White Tara empowerment, as well as brief teachings on the practice. This event was attended by over one hundred people, including monks from other local monasteries.

The monks of the Segyu Gaden Phodrang Monastery showed their gratitude to Kyabje Daknak Rinpoche by performing a Long-Life Puja to assist in creating the causes for him to remain in the world and continue to turn the wheel of the Dharma for a very long time.

Below are photos of Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang conducting a puja in Segyu Gaden Phodrang’s prayer hall.
