Volunteering

Volunteer Opportunities

We are very fortunate that when many of our friends from around the world come to visit Nepal they would also like the opportunity to volunteer at the monastery. While volunteer teachers and medical professionals are always very beneficial to the monastery, there are many areas that are equally as important and accumulate vast amounts of merit. And we will always try to offer volunteer jobs that will match your wishes. Please be assured that even a few hours or one, or a few days of help is so beneficial and appreciated by us. And you can see on the below list there are even ways to volunteer from where you live!

Gompa Caretaker

One of the most blessed jobs is being a Gompa (Prayer Hall) Caretaker. This involves the daily sweeping and dusting of our most sacred space.

Personal Hygiene

Some of our mini monks are very young. They need help in their routine with hand washing, tooth brushing every day and bathing at fixed times.

Housekeeping

As many of our monks are very young they need help in cleaning their rooms, washing toilets and more importantly need help learning how to clean and keep a clean room.

Monastery Maintenance

Whenever 70 or 80 people live in one space there is always something in need of repair. Any handyman skills will always be utilized.

Landscaping

We have several garden areas and are always trying to create more.  This is a very creative opportunity for someone with who enjoys gardening. The creation and maintaining of these areas will be enjoyed by people for years to come and this merit will remain and grow as long as the monastery exists.

Teaching

A wonderful job to do is teaching the mini monks, especially English and Mathematics. As our mini monk population continues to grow, we also welcome anyone who is able to teach Tibetan, Nepali Grammar or Art. If you have any other idea about educating our mini’s, we are happy to explore the possibilities together. You do not need any professional experience, even just short term exposure to these areas on any level are beneficial to our young monks.

Medical

Wellness checkups, teaching our senior monks first aid and anything else that will add to the daily wellbeing of our mini monks.

Computer Graphics

We have a big need for who can either teach or help us with transforming ideas and paperwork into attractive digital material. For example; creating material for special events, making study books, prayer books, religious texts or adjusting and updating this volunteer brochure.

Organising Fundraisers

Organizing fundraisers where you live, such as dinner party or picnic with friends, children’s book collections, silent auctions, sponsorship, etc. or become part our on line fundraising team.

Translators

One of our long term goals it to be able to offer our sadhanas to guests who want to join our pujas in English and eventually several other languages.

These are just a few of the opportunities to volunteer.

If you have a particular skill that you would like to offer it will certainly be appreciated. And if you have a specific area you would like to learn about during your time at the monastery we will do our best to help you.
